I believe you are referring to what I commonly call the “Driver’s Paradox.” Sure people that are walk generally stick to the sidewalk but they can also walk on roads, grass, inside, or on a beach just to name a few. Cars can only really be advised to travel on roads. They are so inflexible but they also come with a clear benefit. Speed. Drivers get where they want to go fast but have to stick to specified paths/roads. Walkers take longer to get to their destination but have an infinite number of paths that they can take. Which one is better? It all depends. For those that are certain of where they want to go driving is best. Barrel down that path as fast as possible. For those that are less sure of their destination they should walk. Maintain the potential to change their path as needed from terrain to terrain. And hey, if at some point during that walk you realize exactly where you want to go you can always hop in a car.
